C-CBC will co-organize a seminar with the UBC Clean Energy Research Centre (CERC) at 11 am on September 29th (PST): “Sustainable Aviation Fuel/Biojet Technologies - Commercialization Status, Opportunities and Challenges”. The speakers are Prof. Jack Saddler and Dr. Susan van Dyk from UBC Faculty of Forestry and IEA Bioenergy Task 39. The seminar will be hosted in Room 202 of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, UBC (2360 East Mall, Vancouver) and also on Zoom (Email siduo.zhang@ubc.ca for Zoom link). The talk will also be recorded (Email siduo.zhang@ubc.ca to request a copy after the seminar day).

Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) will have to play a major role if the aviation sector is to meet its climate goals. However, to date, commercialization has been slow and current policies have proved inadequate to accelerate commercialization and widespread deployment of the various technologies described in the report. The webinar will provide an in-depth look at challenges and opportunities for the commercialization of SAF technologies, as well as emerging trends in research and development. The webinar is based on a recently published report from IEA Bioenergy Task 39 (Commercializing Conventional and Advanced Transport Biofuels from Biomass and Other Renewable Feedstocks) entitled, “Progress in Commercialization of Biojet /Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF): Technologies, potential and challenges".
