On Nov 25th, the C-CBC 2020 Annual Meeting was successfully held virtually. It was jointly organized by the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Hunan Academy of Forestry (HAF) and hosted by Prof. Changzhu Li, the Director of HAF and a core member of C-CBC. C-CBC director Dr. Bi presented the overall progress of the past year. Three China-Canada joint teams presented the updates of their active projects which are funded by the governments of the two countries since 2018. Members from HAF and Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC) also shared their research progress in bioenergy, especially on oil-seeds and residues utilization for pellets and biochar production and remediation of contaminated mining sites. Dr. Xurui Zhang, representing the exchange students from C-CBC member universities, shared her recent work on carbon-based catalyst for tar removal from gasification syngas and her experience in Canada.
C-CBC will continue its research and development (R&D) of bioenergy technologies and will focus on developing its industrial partner programs for technology maturation and deployment. We will also strengthen interactions and collaboration among members on R&D and student and scholar exchanges.
